# License management

> Direct license activation, device seats, and App Store differences

## Two authorization models

|            | Mac App Store                          | Direct (website)                                        |
| ---------- | -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| Payment    | Apple / StoreKit                       | Website checkout                                        |
| Credential | Apple subscription / one-time purchase | License                                                 |
| New Mac    | **Restore purchase** + same Apple ID   | Unbind old device → activate on new device              |
| Devices    | Follows Apple subscription rules       | Lifetime and similar: up to **2** Macs for personal use |

## Direct: activate a license

After purchase, the license usually binds to the current device automatically. You can also check status and the device list under **Settings → Pro → License**.

## Direct: device seats

* View activated devices
* **Unbind**: free a seat before activating on a new Mac
* When seats are full, Pro cannot be enabled on another device until you unbind one

## License status (Direct)

| Status         | Meaning                              |
| -------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| **Active**     | Pro is available                     |
| **Expired**    | Monthly / Yearly not renewed         |
| **Seats full** | Device limit reached                 |
| **Unbound**    | This Mac no longer holds the license |

## Offline use (Direct)

* Entitlements restore from local storage at launch
* Periodic silent validation
* Prompts to re-verify when something is wrong or expired

## App Store users

No manual license management is required. After switching Macs or reinstalling, use the same Apple ID and tap **Restore purchase** under **Settings → Pro**. See [Restore purchase](/subscribe/restore).
