# Citations & evidence

> Citation chips, source types, verification, and when citations are missing

## How citations appear

Repository citation chips in answers (e.g. `[owner/repo]`) mean chunks from that repo matched. On click:

* Right Inspector shows evidence
* May auto-switch to the citations pane and scroll
* Source types can include README, notes, AI summary, etc.

## Best practices

| Practice                      | Why                                                                 |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Open source for key claims    | Avoid over-summary or cross-repo mix-ups                            |
| Narrow with @                 | Cleaner citations                                                   |
| Export answers with citations | Easier audit later → [Sessions](/knowledge-base/session-management) |

## No citations?

Possible causes:

* Question too broad; model did not attach sources
* Index does not cover relevant repos
* @ scope excluded the real sources

Try: rephrase → check [index](/knowledge-base/index-management) → @ specific repos.
