# Connect GitHub

> OAuth, PAT, scopes, multi-account notes

## Sign-in options

Starcat supports browser / OAuth-style GitHub login and personal access token (PAT) flows. Prefer the in-app chooser on first launch.

### Suggested scopes

Typical OAuth scopes used by Starcat: `read:user`, `public_repo` (exact list follows the app’s auth screen).

### PAT tips

* Create a classic or fine-grained token with enough read access for your Stars
* Store the token only in Starcat’s Keychain-backed storage
* Revoke unused tokens on GitHub if you rotate

## After connect

1. Tap **Sync** to pull Stars ([Quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart))
2. Rate limits: GitHub may throttle large accounts—wait and retry
3. Switching GitHub accounts may clear or isolate local caches depending on channel—export / backup first when unsure

## Multi-account

Use one GitHub identity per Starcat profile/session. If you maintain work and personal Stars, prefer separate Mac user accounts or be careful when switching tokens.
